  Asian elephants in their hundreds were spotted at various locations across central London during the months of June and July 2010 before being herded together safely and without causing distress to the elephants within the grounds behind Royal Chelsea Hospital. Here, feeling safe and much happier than when they were separated earlier the character of the individual elephants was clear to see and visitors flocked to the grassy area where the elephants congregated and could touch, stroke, play with and take photos of the friendly eles. After a weekend of being together the individual elephants were put up for auction and sold to the highest bidders. They would probably never see each other again but at least they weren't killed for their ivory tusks as is the terrible fate of some of the great mammals, the largest land animal on our planet. 

The plight of the dwindling population of Asian elephants is a cause for concern as their natural habitat becomes smaller year on year. Elephantfamily.org is a charity whose aim is to halt the decline of this magnificent creature

the streets of London - central London in the main were paved with elephants to raise awareness and money to aid the plight of the dwindling Asian Elephant population. Brainchild or 'baby' of the Elephant Family Charity elephantfamily.org this organisation exists to protect and preserve the habitat not only of the great elephants but also other animals that share the space which include Orangutans and Tigers. Over two Hundred hand painted and hand decorated elephants dotted London during the months of June and July 2010 before being sold to the highest bidder in a sale.  Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn was one of the celebrities taking a gavel in hand overseeing some of the designer elephant sales. If you would like to contribute in some way - however small I am sure it will be very much appreciated. Ways to help save the Asian Elephant from Extinction as so many creatures have succumbed due to mans greed and foolishness and recklessness include making a donation, signing a petition or volunteering
