LONDON EYE PHOTOS GALLERY (1) it might surprise people to know the London Eye is not the biggest Ferris wheel in the world. It certainly might be the most famous and with its location on London's Southbank next to the river Thames and close to other icons such as the clock of big-Ben it should remain one of Britain's most popular attractions for many a year to come. Offering superb aerial views across London the 'eye' is also a focal point for New Year celebrations and a fantastic firework display spectacle. Like the Millennium bridge the London eye was built to usher in the new era with new landmarks. It - and the bridge were beset with teething problems culminating with the wheel not opening on time and possibly being seen as another horrendously costly white elephant as the Millennium dome was. The dome has since had a name change becoming the o2 arena and is now a huge success. The bridge kept its name and the major problem it had ~ wobbliness ~ under certain conditions was closed for a few months, given a drop of 3in1 oil and reopened sans the wobble.
