IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM (LONDON ICONS AND LANDMARKS)
London's Imperial war museum - this London home, the corporate headquarters - is located in Southwark (south east London) and is accessed
via St George's road, Lambeth Road and Kennington Road. This should be the final resting place for the museum which was originally housed
within the beautiful Crystal Palace in 1920 (also south east London) and then to the Imperial Institute in Kensington (1936). Its raison d' etre
is summed up by the message
'to enable people to have an informed understanding of modern
war and its impact on individuals and society'.
Visitors to the museum will see military hardware
as expected but also archive material both official and personal
with photographs, film and audio recordings from those involved directly in the war. There is also a large art collection to see. Entry is
free so there is no excuse to not visit this side of London which is in fact very near to the centre of London where tourists and London
visitors usually do most of their sightseeing
